Weathersfield Township trustees opt for demolition of property

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Township trustees Tuesday rescinded a decision to advertise for bids for demolition of several homes — opting instead for updated legal language allowing immediate action.

Based on the Ohio Revised Code, the trustees authorized the clerk and township administrator to proceed to have structures on the following properties demolished: 2873 Niles-Carver Road, 2352 Ninth St., 2941 Woodlawn Ave., 2947 Woodlawn Ave. and 2914 Trumbull Ave.

The structures were declared unsecure, unsafe or structurally defective by the fire department or unfit for human habitation by the board of health.

The resignation of Patrolman Jeff Eazor was accepted, effective Oct. 31.

Probationary firefighters were named, including Chuck Colburn, Station 41 and Leisa Story, Station 41.

Timothy J. Larman Jr. and Matthew Pugh were rehired as firefighters for Station 41 and Thomas Cantola was promoted from a probationary firefighter to firefighter for Station 42, effective Oct. 1 to March 31.

All township firefighters are paid $9 a call, Chief Randy Pugh said.

Trustees had an informational meeting Wednesday about limited home rule, which will be on the Nov. 4 ballot. Other informational meetings will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mineral Ridge Fire Station and 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at West Park Fire Station, 1382 W. Park Ave., Niles.
