Wean Foundation gives Youngstown $10,000

YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor Jay Williams announced Thursday that the Raymond John Wean Foundation awarded a $10,000 grant for the city’s initiative requiring landlords to remediate lead hazards in rental properties on Thursday.

Young children have been harmed by the poisonous lead contents in some rental units.

The award from the Wean Foundation will be paired with $10,000 in matching funds from the city.

The total funds will enable the Youngstown City Health District to retain a special prosecutor assigned to file civil complaints against rental property owners who have ignored orders to safeguard their units from lead.
