American Standard Brands to implement final offer

SALEM — American Standard Brands plans to implement its final contract offer today.

Representatives of United Steelworkers of America Local 1538 informed management they did not intend to call a vote on the pact, and wanted to continue to negotiate a new agreement, said a company spokesman. The old pact expired Sept. 30.

In a statement, Paul Lee, the plant manager, said, “Our first priority always has been and continues now to be meeting our customers’ needs.”

The statement also says that employees are to come to work as normally scheduled. An official with Local 1538 was not available to comment.

Lordstown company seeks tax incentives to expand

LORDSTOWN — A local company is looking to expand, but would like to see some tax incentives to do so.

Trumbull County commissioners and other interested parties will have a hearing at 10 a.m. today in the commissioners’ conference room on an enterprise zone agreement proposal from a Lordstown Village company.

Cassens Transport Co./Cassens Land Inc. is requesting tax incentives of 75 percent for 10 years on the construction of a 24,000-square-foot building for its trucking operation.

The company plans to hire 30 new employees in addition to the 120 already employed at the operation.

Nissan announces recall to fix sensor system

WASHINGTON — Nissan Motor Co. said Wednesday it was recalling more than 200,000 vehicles to fix a sensor system that could affect the front air bag in the car’s passenger side.

Nissan said the recall includes 140,000 Nissan Altima cars from the 2007-2008 model years. It also involves 2007-2008 model years of the Infiniti EX35, G35 Sedan, G37 and the Nissan 350Z, Murano and Rogue.
