LISBON —The Columbiana County Democratic Party announced that actor Ed O’Neill will be at the Democratic Party Headquarters at 3 p.m. Friday. for a meet and greet. O’Neill is probably best known for his television portrayal of Al Bundy, the middle-aged show salesman whose life didn’t turn out as he might have hoped, in the hit series “Married With Children.”

O’Neill will be on hand to express his support for Sen. Barack Obama and to sign autographs, pose for pictures, and discuss the upcoming election. Refreshments will be served. Arrested on warrant

BOARDMAN — Township police and members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested a Youngstown man on a warrant charging him with a July robbery.

Christopher A. Shiflett, 20, of East Myrtle Avenue, was arrested Tuesday morning at a home on East Marion Avenue. Shiflett is charged with robbery, accused of fighting with an employee of TJ Maxx, Boardman-Poland Road, as Shiflett tried to take merchandise without paying for it. Shiflett was a U.S. Marshals Fugitive of the Week and his photograph and description ran in The Vindicator on Monday.

Cigarette ash causes fire

YOUNGSTOWN — The resident of 216 Matta Ave. fell asleep with a lighted cigarette and was awakened around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday by heat from a mattress fire caused by cigarette ash, the fire department said. No injuries were reported. Damage to the West Side house and contents was set at $18,000, reports show.

Ribbon-cutting at Choffin

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown City School District will cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Choffin Career & Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St., at 2 p.m. Sunday. The building has undergone a $10.4 million face-lift as part of a $190 million, 14-building school rebuilding program. The public is invited to tour Choffin after the ceremony.

Leads sought in robbery

CAMPBELL — Police are searching for leads after a robbery outside of the Huntington National Bank on McCartney Road about 11 a.m. Wednesday. A female employee of Uni Mart on McCartney Road was making a money drop at the bank when she was grabbed from behind and knocked to the ground by a man, who got away with an undetermined amount of money, police said. Because the victim was attacked from behind, she couldn’t give a description of the thief. Police will check the bank’s security cameras for more information.

Senior Watch Program

LIBERTY — An open house introducing the township’s Senior Watch Program will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Liberty Township Administration Building, 1315 Church Hill-Hubbard Road. For more information, call (330) 759-1315. Many area agencies will be present to display and hand out resource information to interested residents. There will be township officials available to explain the new program.

Officer faces OVI charge

NEWTON FALLS — Newton Township Police Capt. Earl Quinn faces charges of operating a vehicle while impaired and failure to control after he crashed his car into a garage. Quinn was to be arraigned today in Newton Falls Municipal Court on the charges.

A Newton Falls police report states Quinn lost control of his Dodge Ram pickup truck about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday and drove it into a garage on Newton Drive. Quinn, who was off-duty at the time of the crash, told police he swerved to miss a deer and lost control of the vehicle. Police said they suspected Quinn had been drinking alcoholic beverages. He refused to take a test to confirm that and was charged with OVI.
