Food-a-Thon benefits Second Harvest Food Bank
YOUNGSTOWN — The shelves and coffers at the Second Harvest Food Bank were replenished after a weekend Food-A-Thon that brought in 10, 334 pounds of food and $8,008 in funds. The produce was unloaded by Food Bank volunteers and on-air personalities from WFMJ-21.
Steelworkers Local 1375 was the biggest contributor to the Food-A-Thon, collecting more than 3,000 pounds of food and raising $814 from members. It also facilitated a gift of $5,000 from Severstal Warren that will be used to feed hungry people in the community.
Michael Iberis, executive director of the Food Bank, thanked members of Local 1375 and Severstal Warren for their generous gifts of food and funds. He also expressed thanks to WFMJ-21 for supporting the Food-A-Thon as part of its Feed Our Valley campaign, for collecting $2,135 for the Food Bank during the Canfield Fair, and for helping with the unloading of supplies.
