Bishop Murry says his moving is unlikely
YOUNGSTOWN — There’s a published report that Youngstown’s Bishop George Murry is on a short list of possible appointees to the position of archbishop of St. Louis, but Bishop Murray said there’s no realistic chance he would be given that assignment by the Pope.
A St. Louis newspaper named Bishop Murray as one of five likely candidates for the post but said it had no confirmation that its list is accurate.
Bishop Murry said the fact that he has served as head of the Youngstown Diocese for less than two years would make it unlikely he would be moved to a new post.
Papal appointments are done in secret and a candidate being considered wouldn’t even be aware of that consideration until notified by the Papal Nuncio that he had been appointed, Bishop Murry said.
