Second Harvest receives funds of $20,000

STAFF REPORT

YOUNGSTOWN — The Second Harvest Food Bank recently received $20,000 in grant money and donations for new equipment and to assist with food distribution during the holidays.

With the $10,000 grant from The Youngstown Foundation, Second Harvest was able to purchase pallet trucks and a manual pallet mover.

“The pallet jacks will help us move food more efficiently, which means getting food out to those that need it sooner,” said Mike Iberis, executive director of the food bank.

The other $10,000 came from a donation from V&M Star, the former North Star Steel.

Food distribution is greatly needed during the holidays, and the donation from V&M will facilitate a more fluent distribution process.

“Donations are always needed but never more so than now,” Iberis said.

The food bank distributed more than 5 million pounds of food in 2007. Second Harvest provides food to 165 hunger relief organizations in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
