Program to provide special transportation
STAFF REPORT
YOUNGSTOWN — Eastgate Regional Council of Governments announces the fiscal year 2009 Specialized Transportation Grant Program for agencies in Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
This program provides funds to assist organizations in providing transportation services to meet the special needs of the elderly and people with disabilities.
These capital grant funds can be used to purchase vehicles, mobility management services and other transportation-related equipment.
Grants from the STP can be used by private, nonprofit agencies to purchase new vehicles, computers and radio equipment, and for mobility management.
The proposed projects must be included in a developed Coordinated Public Transit-Human Services Transportation Plan. Under this federally funded program, the grants pay for 80 percent of the approved items with your agency responsible for providing 20 percent.
Applicants must certify their participation in a Locally Developed Coordinated Public Transit Human Services Transportation Plan. A letter of intent must be submitted to the Eastgate office to determine project eligibility. Those determined to be eligible will receive an invitation to apply. If you have any questions about the process, contact Kathy Zook kzook@eastgatecog.org or call (330) 779-3800.
