Boardman hospital gets $302,000 grant

BOARDMAN — The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley & Western Pennsylvania recently donated $302,000 to Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley to fund a respite center on the campus of the new inpatient hospital, scheduled to open here in December at 6505 Market St. The new medical campus will include a 32-bed inpatient unit for general pediatric medical care, emergency department, outpatient oncology services, radiology and lab services, a rehabilitation center, and other amenities, including, the Ronald McDonald Respite Center, which is scheduled to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2009.

The $302,000 grant will be used to offset the expenses associated with building and furnishing the respite center, which is a place where families can rest while their children are in the hospital. The Respite Center will be equipped with oversized chairs, a television set, a lounge area, a kitchenette, two sleeping rooms and a lactation room.
