Volleyball team wins
YOUNGSTOWN — Four players had at least 15 digs as the YSU volleyball team defeated Green Bay Sunday, 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 25-21.
Laurie Shives had a team-high 18 digs and three aces, Ebony Barbosa had her second-straight double-double, and Ruth Boscaljon registered 11 kills and six blocks for YSU (9-9, 2-6 Horizon).
Liesl Tesch had 16 kills to lead four players posting least 10 kills for Green Bay (8-10, 4-4 Horizon).

Stevens selected
YOUNGSTOWN — For his contributions in the win over Akron Buchtel, Ursuline High School’s L.J. Stevens was selected the Steel Valley Conference football player of the week.
Stevens intercepted two passes, one returned for a 47-yard interception and the other brought back 26 yards.
He also had seven tackles including three solos.
Football tickets
YOUNGSTOWN — Cardinal Mooney High School will be selling tickets for its football game against Ursuline this week.
Tickets will be on sale from Tuesday through Friday in the main office from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Reserve seats are $7, general admission tickets are $6 and students are $4.
Basketball officiating classes start tonight
YOUNGSTOWN — Classes for those interested in learning to become a high school basketball official start tonight at Chaney High at 6 p.m.

Fire, Crew tie
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — Brian McBride scored two goals against his former team to help the Chicago Fire earn a playoff berth with a 2-2 draw against the Columbus Crew on Sunday.
Columbus (16-6-6) scored two goals two minutes apart in the second half to take a 2-1 lead before McBride scored in the 79th minute to tie it.
Chicago (12-9-7) opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Justin Mapp’s corner kick soared over everyone inside the box and bounced right at McBride’s feet.
Columbus scored its first goal when Fire defender Wilman Conde’s attempt to clear the ball went right to Eddie Gaven, who rocketed a shot past Chicago goalkeeper Jon Busch in the 59th minute to tie the match 1-1.
US makes soccer World Cup qualifying
WASHINGTON — DaMarcus Beasley scored his first international goals in 16 months, Landon Donovan added his record 37th goal for the United States and the Americans breezed past Cuba into the final round of World Cup qualifying with unusual ease.
After Beasley scored the first two goals, Donovan and Brian Ching padded the lead early in the second. Jozy Altidore and Oguchi Onyewu added goals in garbage time as the U.S. won its sixth straight match.

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. — Whether it was the wind, the temperature or just a different environment to play in, the NBA’s first outdoor game in more than three decades was an offensive struggle.
The Denver Nuggets beat the Phoenix Suns 77-72 on Saturday night in the exhibition game billed as “NBA Outdoors!” at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

•Texas Open
SAN ANTONIO — Zach Johnson won the Texas Open on Sunday for his fourth PGA Tour title, following his third-round 62 with a 64 for a two-stroke victory over Charlie Wi, Mark Wilson and Tim Wilkinson.
Johnson, the 2007 Masters champion who entered the week with only one top-10 finish this year, had a 19-under 261 total on the La Cantera Golf Club’s Resort Course.
The victory, capped with a 5-foot birdie putt on 18, was his first outside Georgia. In addition to the Masters, he won the 2004 BellSouth Classic and 2007 AT&T Classic.

TIMONIUM, Md. — Down by four strokes with 14 holes to play, D.A. Weibring soared past a fading Nick Price and held off a host of challengers to win the Senior Players Championship, his first career major tournament victory in 65 tries.
Weibring closed out a 2-under 68 with a 2-foot par putt on the 72nd hole. He finished at 9-under 271, one stroke better than hometown favorite Fred Funk (66).
Price (71), Ben Crenshaw (66) and Jeff Sluman (69) were at 7 under, and Jay Haas (68) followed at 6 under.
•Longs Drugs Challenge
DANVILLE, Calif. — South Korea’s In-Kyung Kim won the Longs Drugs Challenge for her first LPGA Tour victory, closing with a 1-over 73 in gusty conditions for a three-stroke victory over Angela Stanford.
