Youngstown woman lunges toward Warren cop’s gun after traffic stop

WARREN — Charges are pending against a 24-year-old Youngstown woman who police say lunged toward a Warren police officer and tried to grab his gun early Saturday after a traffic stop.

The woman, who listed an Ohio Avenue address, was one of two passengers in a vehicle the police officer pulled over on Wick Street Southeast at about 3:45 a.m.

After removing the driver from the car and determining that he did not have a driver’s license, officer David Weber asked the woman to get out of the car’s back seat.

The woman put out her right hand “as if asking officer Weber to help her out of the car,” according to a police report.

Weber helped her from the vehicle by pulling on her right wrist. Part way out, she “lunged with her left hand and tried to grab officer Weber’s gun,” according to the officer’s report.

Weber “jumped back and twisted away,” with another officer grabbing her by her right arm.

When asked about it, the woman laughed and said, “I just tried to grab your gun,” police said.

Officers found a suspected crack pipe on the front floor board of the car and an open container of beer in the back.
