Trumbull sheriff recommends two deputy sergeants be fired

WARREN — Trumbull County Sheriff Thomas Altiere has recommended that two sergeants accused of using a nonprofit narcotics organization for their personal gain be fired.

Ernie Cook, chief deputy sheriff, said Sgts. Pete Pizzulo and Anthony Leshnack were informed of administrative charges to that effect Oct. 3.

The letter notifying them of the decision says they improperly converted donations to their personal use, Cook said.

Both men are exercising their contractual right to appeal the recommendation, Cook said, adding that Altiere is likely to be the hearing officer who handles the matter, which is set for Tuesday morning at the sheriff’s office.

Cook said the hearing will be closed to the public.
