Pavlik roundup
In the spotlight: Kelly Pavlik is getting some serious attention from ESPN this week. Tim Keown’s feature on Pavlik appears in latest edition of ESPN The Magazine (you can read it online at http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/). Pavlik will be featured on ESPN’s primetime newsmagazine show, “E:60,” on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Jeremy Schaap was granted a behind-the-scenes look at Pavlik’s camp to work on the story. For more details, visit www.e60.com.
Speaking of TV: You can find some classic interviews of Pavlik — with hair — on Myvalleysports.com and clicking on “Classic TV.”
Oh yes, there’s more TV: HBO2 will replay the first Pavlik-Jermain Taylor fight Friday at 11:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the 2006 bout between Bernard Hopkins and Antonio Tarver. Those fights also are available to HBO On Demand subscribers beginning Monday through Oct. 27.
More from HBO: HBO will replay its 30-minute special, “Countdown to Pavlik-Hopkins” today at 9:45 a.m. Addition dates are: Monday (3 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.); Tuesday (8 p.m. and 1:50 a.m.); Thursday (12:30 a.m.); Friday (10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.); and Saturday (4:15 p.m.). It also will be available several times on HBO2 and for HBO On Demand subscribers from Monday through Oct. 27.
Pavlik T-shirts: You can buy the Pavlik-Hopkins fight T-shirts at the following locations: BW-3 in Boardman and Austintown, O’Donald’s in Austintown, Clemens Wine Cellar, Knoll Run Golf Course, Bedford Trails Golf Course, Jimmy’s Italian Food Specialties on Belmont Avenue, Cornersburg Italian Specialties, Patrone’s Landscaping in Girard, East Side Civics, One Stop in Austintown Plaza, Todor Physical Therapy in Warren and Groover Roofing and Siding. Shirts cost $26.
Good memories: One of the advantages of fighting at 170 pounds is Pavlik is able to eat more. But his training meals can’t compete with his lunches at Lowellville. “They had homemade pepperoni rolls, homemad pasta, the tacos were homemade. ...” said Pavlik, who attended Taft Elementary before switching to Lowellville in the seventh grade. “They’d give you a big salad and then lasagna. Fridays were pizza days. I was like, ‘Wow.’ I used to love lunch time.”
