Innovative approach wins honor for hospital
YOUNGSTOWN — Humility of Mary Health Partners’ (HMHP) parent company, Catholic Healthcare Partners (CHP), has been listed on the 2008 InformationWeek 500, a list that honors the nation’s most innovative users of information technology. This is the third consecutive year that CHP has been so recognized.
As a member of CHP, Humility of Mary Health Partners has been able to implement clinical information technology tools to improve patient safety and quality of care, said Michael Seiser, HMHP vice president of Information Systems.
Wellness event
YOUNGSTOWN — A free Community Health & Wellness Fair, “Your Body, God’s Temple,” is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Salvation Army, 1501 Glenwood Ave. Sponsored by The Women’s Ministry of Holy Trinity Baptist Church, the event includes a Chinese auction, lunch and speakers.
Thinking ahead
NILES - The Ohio Hospital Association is joining with the Ohio Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and other organizations to designate Oct. 12-19 as Living Wills and Advance Directives Week.
A living will establishes the kind of care wanted only when a person is permanently unconscious or terminally ill and unable to express wishes. A health care power of attorney allows a person to designate someone to make their health care decisions if they are unable to.
The Humility of Mary Health Partners Supportive Care team will assist people in completing written advance directives from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joe’s at the Mall, located inside the Eastwood Mall, next to Sears. Fighting breast cancer
CANTON — Next Sunday, breast cancer survivors, their families, friends and others in the Canton area will participate in the 9th annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The non-competitive 3.1 mile walk begins and ends at Canton McKinley High School, 2323 17th Street N.W. Beginning yoga classes
WARREN — St. Joseph Health Center will offer a seven-session beginning yoga class for adults only on Mondays, Nov. 3 through Dec. 15, in the hospital’s private dining rooms. Class time is 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Certified yoga instructor Patricia Evans will teach simple yoga postures and breathing and relaxation techniques. Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring a mat or blanket and a small pillow to each class.
The cost of the program is $58; $44 for Humility of Mary Health Partners employees. Healthy weight loss
HOWLAND — Q Club Fitness, 8094 E. Market St., is offering “Take It Off for a Cause,” an eight-week weight loss/exercise program that promotes health and wellness and raises money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Participants may enroll as a team or individual. Prizes will be awarded for the greatest weight loss percentages. Weigh-ins will be weekly beginning Monday and ending Dec. 6. Three different times will be offered to fit participants’ busy schedules.

Prostate screenings
HERMITAGE, Pa. — UPMC Horizon is offering free prostate screenings on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road. The screening includes an examination and a Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood test by Paul Lange, MD, board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics.
