CUMBERLAND ISLAND NATIONAL SEASHORE: www.nps.gov/cuis or (912) 882-4336. Reachable via ferry from St. Marys, Ga. Ferry reservations are required and tickets are $17 for adults, $12 for children under 12 and $15 for seniors, plus $4 park entrance fee for anyone over 16. Open daily with ferry departures at 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. The island has 50 miles of hiking trails and 17 miles of pristine beach. Overnight camping is allowed ($2-$4 per night) by reservation. Make sure to bring food and water — you can’t buy any on the island. The National Park Service is taking public comment on proposed motor tours, expected to start in early 2009. For now, walking or renting bikes ($16) are the only way to get around.
