Donating
The Lawrence County Homeless Coalition is accepting donations for homeless people who will live outside this winter.
What to give: Sleeping bags; blankets and pillows; tents; rope; hand-, foot- and body-warmer pouches; warm clothing.
Where to give: Drop the items off at Patches Place, 217 N. Mill Street, New Castle (the old Universal Rundle building).
Monetary donations: The coalition’s tax-exempt status is through the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Lawrence County affiliate, said Sandi Hause, a supervisor at Patches Place. Make checks payable to NAMI-Lawrence County affiliate. Include a memo that the money is for the homeless coalition, and include a return address for a receipt. Send to Patches Place, 217 N. Other suggestions: Patches Place also stocks a food pantry with canned and boxed goods. It has showers where it provides soap, deodorant, shampoo and toothpaste and toothbrushes.
