Founders of NCNW section to be honored

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown Section of the National Council of Negro Women will pay tribute to the founders of the local organization during an annual luncheon scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the McGuffey Centre.

“Honoring Our Founders” is the theme for the event, which will pay homage to Louise Payne, Ella Robinson, Ruth Squire and the late Bessie Coston. Charter members will also be recognized.

New and renewable memberships may be purchased at the luncheon, and there will be a Chinese auction, coordinated by Viola Clark, and an Angel Tree project, provided by Jennifer Miller.

Mary Jo Truman is chairwoman, and Karen Jackson-Cook is section president.

Founded in 1935 by Mary McLeod Bethune, NCNW serves as an umbrella for 38 national organizations with a membership of four million women. The goal of NCNW is to strengthen and improve the economic and social status of black women and their families by focusing on various issues affecting their lives.
