Boardman’s Jeskos earn state berth
OBERLIN — Boardman’s top doubles team of Carolyn Jesko and Ann Jesko placed fifth at Saturday’s Division I district tennis tournament at Oberlin College to automatically earn a state berth.
The Spartans defeated Shaker Heights’ doubles team of Amanda Polster and Lauren Holloway in the fifth-place match, 6-2, 6-2.
Boardman also defeated a doubles team from Hoover in the first consolation bracket match after falling to Walsh Jesuit in the quarterfinals.
The top six doubles teams advanced to next weekend’s tournament in Columbus.
Division II
CANTON — Mooney’s doubles team of Allison St. George and Jaclyn DiDominico won their fifth-place match in the Div. II district tournament in Canton, earning the final state berth.
The Cardinals defeated Hawken’s team of Hannah Kerman and Maya Ahuja, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 in the fifth-place match. They won their first Saturday match after a doubles team from Laurel withdrew due to injury. The top five singles players and doubles teams advanced.
Poland’s Gabrielle Brocker was eliminated with a loss to Canton South’s Morgan Murray, 6-1, 6-1.
