East beats Canton CC in OT, 32-26


CANTON — Roncarlos Hilton found Martez Penn for an 18-yard touchdown reception in overtime Friday to give the East High football team a 32-26 victory over Canton Central Catholic.

East led 18-0 in the first quarter. After Anthony Robinson scored a 1-yard touchdown, Michael Starkey caught an 88-yard pass from Braylon Rogers. Rogers also scored on a 41-yard run.

The Crusaders rallies when Kyle Dureska hit Nick Keller with scoring tosses covering 42, 13 and 24 yards.

Dureska completed 18 of 30 oasses for 215 yards. Keller caught nine for 154 yards.

For East (3-5), Tyruss Patterson scored a touchdown on an 8-yard run in the fourth quarter. The Crusaders (1-7) forced overtime when Marc Davide returned a kickoff 81 yards.

Mathews 47, Lutheran East 14

VIENNA — Running back Wade Prueitt carried the ball 17 times for 124 yards and scored three times. Brent Jackson and Jimmie Hoffman finished with 109 yards on eight carries and 63 yards on 21 carries, respectively.

Quarterback Jake Swank completed one of two attempted passes for 11 yards. Ryan Winfield had the lone catch for the Mustangs.

The Eagles relied on running back Quintin McKenzie for their scoring. McKenzie scored on a 61-yard run and a 90-yard kickoff return. He also caught a pass for a two-point conversion.

McKenzie finished with 87 yards on six carries and caught two passes for 59 yards.

Northwest 42, West Branch 33

BELOIT — Northwest was down 17-7 at halftime, but rallied..

Evan Bach had a career night on the ground. The running back rushed for 296 yards on 35 carries and scored five touchdowns.

Running back Jon Semelsberger added another 91 yards on five carries. Bach was the leading receiver, catching five passes for 40 yards.

Quarterback Bryan Jones managed the game for the Indians, completing seven-of-ten passes for 51 yards.

Chad Butcher caught six passes for 151 yards and a touchdown for the Warriors. Jase Uyselt added two catches for 37 yards and a touchdown, and rushed three times for 36 yards and a score. Quarterback Mike Smith finished going 14-25 for 235 yards with an interception and three touchdowns.

Field 31, Southeast 6

MOGADORE — The Pirates outgained Field 353-346 but lost the ball four times, including three interceptions, in the Portage Trail Conference game.

Anthony Farrington was 18-of-31 for 205 yards and a touchdown for Southeast (2-6, 2-3), while Gary Allen gained 57 yards on 16 carries.

Taylor Simyak caught eight passes for 86 yards.

Field improved to 6-2, 4-1.
