NILES — A 17-bout amateur fight card is slated for Saturday at McMenamy’s Banquet Center with Campbell’s Jake Giuriceo set to take on George Martin of Detroit in the main event.
“We feel like this card cannot miss,” promoter Pat Nelson said. “We’re really excited because it gives all of the fighters a chance to showcase their talents. It’s really an excellent mix of boxers with a female bout serving as the co-main feature.
“All bouts are expected to be very competitive,” Nelson said.
Giuriceo (155 pounds) is 23-3 overall and will meet Martin, considered one of the top up-and-coming boxers in the 155-pound class in Michigan.
“Jake [Giuriceo] is under the tutelage of Keith Burnside and Sammy Caldrone, and both tell me that he is ready to step up. He is a real up and coming fighter,” Nelson said.
In the co-main feature, Alicia DeFrank (9-3) will take on undefeated Carla Figueroa of Cleveland, a fighter who has pretty much breezed through her first five bouts.
Other fights to keep an eye on include Youngstown’s Kevin “D.B” Brown, who will take on Devon Henry of Columbus in a 200-pound tussle; Po-Po Salinas of Campbell who will meet Cleveland’s Tony Vega in a 100-pound battle; Mafia Slade of Columbus who entertains Jerrid Banks of Lima in a 145-pound bout; and Dominick Falls, also of Columbus who goes up against Francis Figueroa, Jr. of Cleveland in the 168-pound class.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with the fights set to get under way at 7 p.m.
Tickets cost $15 at the door with ringside tables available for $300.
