Walk to raise funds for Alzheimer’s assistance group is Sunday

CANFIELD — The Alzheimer’s Assistance and Referral Network invites all interested parties to join in “Walking Together” on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds to help raise funds for the Network’s local services for Alzheimer disease. Registration is at 12:30 p.m. This is the fourth year for the three-hour walk which last year raised about $10,000.

Alzheimer’s disease is debilitating for the sufferer and extremely difficult to manage for the patient’s family and caregivers. This weekend, families and friends of Alzheimer patients will be walking, riding and standing to raise awareness about the disease and its impact on those around them, said Dorothy Barto, Network director.

Founded in 2004, the mission of the Alzheimer’s Assistance and Referral Network is to assist area families dealing with the responsibilities involved in tending to loved ones suffering with this progressive brain disease, through educational seminars, speaker’s bureau presentations, family mentoring, and support groups.

The public is invited to contact AARN for more information on the Memory Walk or its other programs at (330) 788-9755 or (866) 822-2102.
