Police investigate death of man in jail
NEWTON FALLS — Police are investigating the death of a city man who was in police custody on drug charges.
Police Chief Robert Carlson said Zachary Dunn, 19, of 609 Ridge Road, was in the city jail on charges of possession of drugs, littering and cultivation of marijuana before being found hanging in his cell Monday afternoon.
Dunn had been in the jail since Thursday. Carlson said other criminal charges were pending in Braceville.
Carlson said items commonly found in the cell were used in the hanging. The coroner, he said, is set to make a ruling in the coming days.
Carlson said there has not been a death of this nature at the jail in the last 30 years.
Carlson said the department will review the situation surrounding the death to determine if any changes in procedure at the jail are needed.

Mail thefts reported
HERMITAGE, Pa. — Police say they have been receiving complaints of mail being stolen in the city. It appears that someone is driving around at night taking mail that is being mailed out, police said.
They received complaints Monday from homeowners on Lori Lane, Golden Run, Golfwood Drive, Donald Road, and Lisa Court.
Residents are advised to not place mail being sent out until morning. The thieves are targeting mailboxes that have the flag up, indicating that mail is inside, police said.
Polish Happy Hour set
YOUNGSTOWN — Polish Happy Hour Youngstown is having a Polish Happy Hour from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Imbibe, 124 W. Federal St.
The organization brings together those, particularly young professionals, who are interested in Poland and/or speaking Polish.
The closing of Martini’s Downtown in late August has adversely impacted business at Imbibe, a martini bar, because some people are under the incorrect impression that the latter is closing, said Jeff Kurz, its owner.
