Mausoleums in New Castle vandalized
STAFF REPORT
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Police said three mausoleums were vandalized on the North Hill, with bodies desecrated inside one of them.
The property manager of Oak Park Cemetery on Neshannock Boulevard called police with the discovery at around 10 p.m. Monday.
The doors to two of the mausoleums were damaged, but the burglar couldn’t get in, police said.
In the third one, the doors were ripped out and coffins were opened. Police said they found a skull outside the mausoleum and bones scattered inside the building.
A witness told police that a tall, skinny man walked up to the doors of one of the mausoleums and shook them at 7:30 p.m.
When the man noticed the witness walking toward him, he jumped in his car and sped away. The police officer who responded requested extra patrols in the area.
