HOWLAND — The Trumbull County Republican Party will have its monthly breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at its new party headquarters, 2460 Elm Road N.E., Suite 400, in the Rancho Villa Commons Plaza.

Benefit to help woman
BOARDMAN — A benefit dinner is planned for Sunday to help raise money for a woman who was severely injured when a drunken driver collided with the motorcycle she was riding on.
The May accident left Susie Reader, 36, of Boardman, with medical bills and no job. The all-you-can-eat chicken dinner will be from noon to 5 p.m. at Jumpin’ Jack’s Chicken Shack, 9159 Market St.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children 8 and under, and all proceeds will go toward Reader’s medical expenses and costs of living for her and her 8-year-old daughter. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling (330) 783-0155 or (330) 207-5616.

Firewood available at park
YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks’ wood-storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Saturday for people who want to cut and load firewood.
There is no fee for the firewood, but individuals must bring a chainsaw and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.
No firewood may be removed from Mahoning County due to the quarantine for Emerald Ash Borer. Moving firewood illegally is punishable by fines of up to $4,000.
Only 15 vehicles will be allowed in the storage lot at any one time. Trucks larger than pickup size are not allowed. Trailers attached to trucks are not allowed. Automobiles with trailers shorter than 8 feet are permissible.

Warriors kickoff breakfast
YOUNGSTOWN — Warriors Inc. is having a kickoff celebration for the Warriors of Manhood and Totally You Girl programs at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the Byzantine Center at the Grove, 3801 Shady Run Road.
Breakfast will begin at 10 a.m. and is free for all participants signed up for the two programs. Breakfast for parents of participants will be $4, and for all other attendees will be $9.
Speakers are Sonya Williams, wife of Mayor Jay Williams; William Blake, director of student diversity at Youngstown State University; and Guy Burney, a motivational speaker.
Warriors of Manhood and Totally You Girl are free enrichment programs focused on educating males and females ages 9 to 25.
The programs will run from 9 a.m. to noon every other Saturday from Oct. 25 until March 2009 at Eagle Heights Academy, the former Youngstown South High School building,1833 Market St. To register or volunteer for the programs, contact Sparkil Alli at (330) 783-5440.
Sobriety checkpoint set
A sobriety checkpoint will be somewhere in Mahoning County from 11 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday.
The Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force will target impaired drivers. The mission of the task force is to keep our roadways safe by reducing alcohol- and drug-related crashes through public awareness and enforcement. The task force encourages responsible drinking and the use of sober designated drivers.
