Liberty police investigating case of items, cash missing from store

Items were discovered missing during an inventory.

LIBERTY — Township police are investigating the disappearance of more than 128 pieces of household merchandise and cash from the Blue Ribbon Rental store on Belmont Avenue.

The store’s director of operations told police a routine inventory of the store after a manager quit revealed the items missing.

According to police reports, the 26-year-old former manager was questioned about some of the missing items, and 35 of the items were recovered. Reports say the recovered items were picked up by Blue Ribbon employees at the former manager’s home and the home of his mother.

Reports said a witness saw the manager and his mother at the store with two trucks.

No arrests have been made.

The director of operations also told police that the former manager kept cash payments made by customers. A receipt book was found with copies of receipts given to customers for payments that had not been put into the company account or logged into the company’s computer system.

Reports say the customers likely believed they were making legitimate payments on merchandise from the store.

The former manager is also suspected of purchasing a computer monitor for personal use on the company’s account.
