YOUNGSTOWN — Interstate 680 and state Route 7 (Market Street) will have lane restrictions in either or both directions from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. Friday through Monday for bridge painting work.
Beginning Friday night, the I-680 southbound exit ramp to Market Street northbound to downtown Youngstown will be closed until 6 a.m. Monday. The detour will be I-680 southbound to Route 7 to U.S. Route 422 eastbound to Wick Avenue.
This work is part of a $2.4 million project to redeck and paint the Market Street bridge over I-680. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late May 2009.
‘Volley for the Cure’
NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield Local High School volleyball team’s “2008 Volley for the Cure” match is today at the high school gymnasium against Mineral Ridge High School.
Participants wear pink, and spectators can buy T-shirts and baked goods and take part in raffles and an auction, all to raise money for and awareness of breast cancer.
The junior varsity match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and the varsity match will begin between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m.
Arson destroys house
YOUNGSTOWN — The vacant house at 3024 Firnley Ave. on the South Side was destroyed by an arsonist over the weekend, the fire department said. Firefighters found the structure engulfed in flames when they arrived at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Damage was set at $19,000, a total loss.
Nearby, the detached garage at a vacant duplex at 154-56 W. Boston Ave. was deliberately set on fire at 8:30 p.m. Friday, reports show. Damage was set at $2,000, a total loss.
