Water break leaves part of Girard dry
GIRARD — A water main break at Church Hill Road and Lincoln Avenue left much of the city without water Saturday.
“Tons of people are without water,” said city patrol officer Rich Bzinek, who visited the scene of the break at 3:30 p.m.
Late in the evening, water department crews were still working to drain water to get to the break, but it looked as though they were making good progress. Police said later that the city hoped to have water service restored by midnight.
Bzinek said the break happened around 1:40 a.m. It affected the whole middle of the city, he said. “We’re getting hundreds and hundreds of calls.”
Some people are completely without water, he said. Others have some, but pressure is low.
Once water is restored, it should be boiled for drinking and cooking until further notice.
