Pecchia passes YCS past Shadyside
St. Ignatius routed Warren Harding, while Mathews and New Castle won.
SHADYSIDE — John Pecchia threw three touchdown passes Saturday to lead Youngstown Christian to a 28-26 victory over Shadyside.
Victor Shaw caught a 4-yard pass for a touchdown and returned a fumble 55 yards for another.
Pecchia hit Pat Durkin for a 37-yard score and Brian Richey for a 23-yard touchdown for the Eagles (5-2).
The final Shadyside (5-2) touchdown came with 1:55 remaining as Nathan Betts caught a 15-yard pass from David Bonar. The Eagles knocked down the conversion pass attempt.
Pecchia completed 8 of 18 passes for 136 yards. Marqueal Smith rushed 27 times for 106 yards.
St. Ignatius 49, Warren Harding 7
PARMA — Mike Dorsey’s 9-yard touchdown run gave Harding an early 7-0 lead.
The Wildcats responded with 49 consecutive points. Quarterback Andrew Holland threw three touchdown passes and rushed for one. He completed 15 of 17 tosses for 199 yards.
Demond Hymes led the Raiders rushing attack with 41 yards on five carries. Aunre Davis completed 2 of 7 passes for 44 yards.
Mathews 54, Ashtabula SJP 28
ASHTABULA — Brent Jackson rushed 26 times for 260 yards and four TDs to lead Mathews (3-4, 2-1 ESC). SJP is 1-6, 1-2.
New Castle 48, Montour 12
MONTOUR, Pa. — New Castle quarterback Mike Bongivengo passed for five touchdowns and 383 yards by completing 14 of 19 passes.
Jajuan Jay caught two scoring tosses covering 60 and 50 yards. Brand Burley’s two scoring receptions covered 82 and 31 yards. He also had a 12-yard scoring run. Keith Keene scored on a 91-yard run and caught a 55-yard touchdown pass.
