MERCER COUNTY \ Sentencings


Several people were sentenced recently in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. According to court documents:

Brie Hilton, 25, of Fairmont Drive, Hermitage, was given a nine-to-24 month suspended sentenced and placed on four years’ probation for felony criminal conspiracy to commit criminal trespass, misdemeanor forgery and unauthorized use of an automobile. She was also fined an unspecified amount. In January 2007, she conspired with a man to take another woman’s checkbook, necklace and camera from a Delaware Township residence. She then wrote six checks for a total $310 on the woman’s account. She also operated another woman’s car without permission Feb. 24, 2007, at Spruce and Cedar Avenue, Sharon.

George Merchant, 19, of North Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, was sentenced to one year on house arrest for criminal mischief and defiant trespass, both misdemeanors, for entering a North Sharpsville Avenue building by subterfuge Sept. 17.

Trista Payne, 33, of the state Correctional Facility at Muncy, Pa., was placed on two years’ probation for misdemeanor retail theft. She stole $208 worth of clothing from a store at Prime Outlets, Springfield Township.

Labrina Robinson, of South Wayne Street, New Castle, was placed on two years’ probation for receiving stolen property and retail theft, both misdemeanors. On Dec. 23, 2007, she stole two purses valued at $282, and $467 worth of goods including shirts, pants, towels and a shaver from Macy’s, in Hermitage.

Cherish Benham, 19, of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to one month to two years in jail, ordered to perform 75 hours of community service and ordered to pay restitution for misdemeanor retail theft. On Dec. 21, 2007, she stole $338 worth of clothing, jewelry and miscellaneous items from Wal-Mart, 1275 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

Jeffrey Fair, 33, of Wilhelm Road, Hermitage, was sentenced to two weeks to one year in jail for misdemeanor stalking. On Jan. 27, he broke into a West Middlesex residence and punched and choked a woman and then took her in his vehicle, telling her she was going to die and that she would never see her children again. The incident took place on Oakhill Road and Denamen Drive.

Todd Murphy, 41, of Ellworth Street, Sharon, was sentenced to 30 days to two years in jail for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. On March 29, 2008 he discharged a rifle inside his residence while his wife and three children were there.

Kenneth Rodgers, 18, of South Hermitage Road, Hermitage, was sentenced to one week to two years in jail and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service for felony burglary. On Dec. 10, 2007, he entered a George Street Extension residence and took a PlayStation III and other items.

Harold Steele, Jr., 38, of South Center Street, Grove City, was sentenced to 10 months to seven years in prison for obstructing the administration of law or other government function, a misdemeanor. In ebruary, at the Country Fair, 228 W. Main St., Grove City, he told a woman he heard she turned him in for a robbery and threatened to kill her if he went to jail.

Lisa Whigham, 42, of North Oakland Avenue, Sharon, was placed on two years’ probation and ordered to pay restitution for criminal conspiracy to commit theft by deception, a misdemeanor. She conspired with another woman to take $121 worth of merchandise from Wal-Mart in Hermitage and return it for a refund.

Jerod Cullers, 28, of North Main Street, Sandy Lake, was placed on four years’ probation and ordered to make restitution for two counts of misdemeanor retail theft. He took $156 worth of cologne and other items from Kmart, 2235 E. State St., Hermitage, on Sept. 10, 2007; and then on Oct. 23, 2007, took 11 DVDs valued at $77 from the Family Dollar, 100 S. Water Ave., Sharon.

Emily Hindman, 30, of Grace Street, Grove City, was placed on three years’ probation for felony conspiracy to commit burglary. She conspired with two others to burglarize Burger King, 1400 W. Main St., Grove City, on Oct. 30, 2007.

Jason Houser, 28, of South Oakland Avenue, Sharon, was placed on three years’ probation and ordered to make restitution for attempted theft from a motor vehicle and possession of a small amount of marijuana, both misdemeanors. On Dec. 14, 2007, he tried to steal three catalytic converters valued at $250 from Hovis Auto Supply, 1552 E. State St., Hermitage.

Jason Merchant, 20, of Ashton Avenue, Sharpsville, was sentenced to six to 23 months and ordered to make restitution for criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, a felony. He conspired with another man to burglarize a residence on Pine Tree Lane, Hermitage.

Anthony Munger, 18, of Ridge Avenue, Sharpsville, was sentenced to three to 23 months in jail for recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor. He was credited with 131 days already served. On Feb. 29, he pointed a loaded gun at one woman, made threatening gestures with a knife toward another, and threatened two other women at his residence.

Andrew Reedy, 41, of Wengler Avenue, was placed on one year’s probation and ordered to make restitution for bad checks, a misdemeanor. He passed a bad check for $441 to Meiss Auto Repair, 2050 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, on June 2, 2007.

Christopher Sanders, 40, of Homewood Drive, Hermitage, was placed on two years’ probation for felony retail theft for taking a $129 carpet cleaning machine from Big Lots, 2301 E. State St., Hermitage on Dec. 28, 2007. The offense is a felony because it was his third or subsequent.

Christopher Savchuk, 40, formerly of Berea, Ohio, was sentenced to one to five years in prison and ordered to make restitution for felony aggravated assault. On Dec. 16, 2006, he repeatedly struck another man with a brass lamp, seriously injuring the victim’s right eye, nose and ribs. The assault took place at a Woodside Drive, Hermitage, address.
