Akron 30, Kent St. 27, 2OT
KENT — Igor Iveljic kicked three field goals, including a 25-yarder in the second overtime to lift Akron. Nate Reed of Kent State (1-5, 0-2 Mid-American Conference) converted a 32-yard field goal on the last play of regulation to tie the game at 24-24 and send it into the first overtime. Both he and Iveljic then kicked field goals in the first overtime. After Iveljic’s 25-yarder, Reed then missed wide right on a 23-yard attempt to end the game. Chris Jacquemain completed 21-of-39 passes for 243 yards and touchdowns of 24 yards to Deryn Bowser and 29 yards to Andre Jones for Akron (3-3, 1-1). Jacquemain was intercepted three times and Kent State fumbled the ball away twice. Julian Edelman carried 18 times for 113 yards and also completed 17-of-31 passes for 157 yards and two scores — 14 yards to Shawn Bayes and 1 yard to Justin Thompson — for the Golden Flashes.
Temple 28, Miami (Ohio) 10
OXFORD, Ohio — Chester Stewart threw three touchdown passes — two to Bruce Francis in the fourth quarter — to lead Temple. Stewart completed just 11-of-23 passes for 178 yards, but hooked up with Steve Maneri for a 2-yard score in the second quarter before hitting Francis on 43- and 6-yard touchdown plays in a span of just over 2 minutes of the final period. Kee-ay Griffin added a 25-yard touchdown run for the Owls (2-4, 1-2 Mid-American Conference). Thomas Merriweather scored on a 2-yard run for Miami (1-4, 0-1), which also picked up points on Nathan Parseghian’s 34-yard field goal. The RedHawks fumbled the ball away three times and also had an interception. They mustered just 91 yards rushing on 39 attempts. Temple had four sacks for 38 yards in losses. Griffin had 36 yards on six carries. Miami’s Clay Belton hit on 14-of-22 passes for 147 yards with one interception in relief of Daniel Raudabaugh, who hit on 8-of-18 for 65 yards.
W. Michigan 41, Ohio 20
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Tim Hiller threw for a season-high 347 yards and four touchdowns and running back Brandon West scored three touchdowns, leading Western Michigan. Hiller topped 300 yards for the third time this season and completed 24-of-37 passes for the Broncos (5-1, 3-0 Mid-American). Western, which ran up 503 yards in total offense, has won five straight since a season-opening loss at Nebraska and is one of three MAC West teams unbeaten in league play. Ohio’s Boo Jackson completed 13-of-22 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns, but was intercepted twice and sacked five times as the Bobcats (1-5, 0-2) lost by their largest margin this season. West rushed for a game-high 107 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries, and also caught four passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns. West turned a screen pass into a 45-yard scoring reception with 12:44 left in the fourth quarter, then ran 26 yards for a TD with 2:25 remaining. The Broncos’ Jamarko Simmons caught a game-high eight passes for 87 yards and a touchdown. Ohio’s Andrew Mooney caught 5 passes for 67 yards and a touchdown.
E. Michigan 24, Bowling Green 21
BOWLING GREEN — Andy Schmitt hit Tyler Jones on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds left to push Eastern Michigan past Bowling Green. The Falcons (2-3, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) had taken a 21-17 lead on Tyler Sheehan’s 8-yard run with 5:11 left. Jones’ catch from Schmitt capped a six-play, 77-yard drive that took just 45 seconds. Jones led the Hurons (2-4, 1-2) with 60 yards on 13 carries and also had four catches for 61 yards. Dwayne Priest ran for a 12-yard score and Terrence Blevins added another TD on a 1-yard plunge for Eastern, which had 410 yards of total offense.
