HOWLAND — A tire drop-off for Howland Township residents will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Public Works Department, 3600 North River Road. Residents may drop off a maximum of eight passenger tires with no rims.

Help during holidays

NEWTON FALLS — Applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas are ready at the Church Mouse Thrift Shop, 261‚Ñ2 W. Broad St., and may be picked up 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Anyone with a qualifying income in the 44444 ZIP code area may get an application for help with Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner and toys.

Fall Festival planned

HOWLAND — Howland Township is celebrating the season with live entertainment for its first Fall Festival on Oct. 18.

The festival will include a farmers’ market, pumpkin-carving contest, live music, food and activities for children, from 2 to 6 p.m at the gazebo on East Market Street.

Residents must pre-register for the 8 a.m. Pumpkin Fun Run-Walk, but the rest of the event is open to the public. All events are free.

Registration forms for the run-walk are available at the township administration building. Organizers said they hope the event will be the first in an annual tradition for the township.

‘Healthy homes’ session

NILES — Parents and their children are invited to the Parent Power workshop Oct. 16 at the Eastwood Mall for advice on creating “healthy homes.”

The Family and Children First Council will present tips for providing a clean and safe indoor environment for children during its monthly gathering outside the Dillard’s entrance between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. Tips will be given on cleaning effectively and preparing for furnace use to reduce allergens and dust.

Refreshments and child care will be provided at no cost, but parents must register by calling (330) 399-3412.

Temporary closings

MESOPOTAMIA — Carson Salt Springs Road between Austintown Warren Road and Highland Avenue in Weathersfield Township will be closed Thursday and Friday for a crosspipe replacement, the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office reports.

The recommended detour involves use of Carson Salt Springs Road, Salt Springs Youngstown Road, Austintown Warren Road, West Park Avenue and Highland Avenue.

Parkman-Mesopotamia Road in Mesopotamia Township will also be closed between Parks West Road and state Route 87 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday for a crosspipe replacement.
