This weekend: NASCAR’s top series returns to Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway for the Amp Energy 500 Sunday. Television coverage on WYTV (33) begins at 1 p.m. with the green flag scheduled to drop just after 2. Qualifying is Saturday at 12:15 p.m. on SpeedChannel.

Last weekend: The Hartford native started the Camping World Rv 400 presented by Coleman in 26th position but finished in 31st, two laps off the pace, in the No. 22 Toyota Caterpillar, in front of an estimated 100,000 fans at Kansas Speedway. Blaney’s day was marred by a drive-through penalty for excessive speed entering the pits on lap 176.

Season to date: Blaney remains in 31st place in the Sprint Cup Series standings, 78 points behind No. 30 Reed Sorenson.
