Clergyman quoted in book

YOUNGSTOWN — The Rev. Lonnie Simon, pastor emeritus of New Bethel Baptist Church, is quoted in a new book, “Epic Journey of the African-American Family” by Janice D. Hollis, which features Barack Obama and his family on the cover.

In 1987, when Simon was conducting a revival in Philadephia, He met Hollis, who had a radio program, and they stayed in touch.

In her book, Hollis mentions Simon, a well-known pastor, community and Civil Rights activist. The book notes Simon remembers Obama speaking at the Democratic convention and thinking of him as a “21st century prophet.”
