Woman charged in felonious assault

STAFF REPORT

WARREN — Shalaymia Broadus, 19, of Fifth Street Southwest, has pleaded innocent to felonious assault in the stabbing of another 19-year-old Warren woman with a kitchen knife in the hallway of Broadus’ apartment building.

Police said the victim was knocking on her aunt’s apartment door when Broadus attacked her at about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The victim had five knife wounds and was still in the emergency room at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital late Wednesday afternoon.

The victim said she has been involved in an ongoing feud with Broadus over a boyfriend.

Police said the victim had moderate injuries to one bicep and upper arm and lesser injuries to a forearm, knuckle and breast.

Broadus told police she was only defending herself from the other woman, who came to her apartment with three other people and attacked her. Broadus had no apparent injuries, and there was no sign of a struggle in her apartment, however, police said.

Judge Thomas Gysegem of Warren Municipal Court set Broadus’ bond at $7,500 and set her next hearing for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 9.

If convicted of the charge, Broadus could get up to eight years in prison.
