McDONALD COUNCIL | Agenda

Village officials handled these matters during their meeting Wednesday:

Entered into a two-year agreement with Buckeye Energy Brokers Inc. of Twinsburg regarding an aggregate natural-gas program. Buckeye will serve as broker for the program, which would go into effect in December and help to negotiate a fixed price for the first year, Mayor Glenn W. Holmes explained. An opt-in component can allow residents to get a better rate for natural gas, especially with market volatility and the anticipation of higher heating bills this winter, Holmes noted, adding that residents age 65 and older will receive a 10-cent reduction per 1,000 cubic feet.

Gave a third reading to a resolution to hire Seidler Engineering Inc. of Liberty as project manager for the village’s 2009 road resurfacing project. About $218,244 of the cost will come from an Ohio Public Works Commission grant, with the village to match about $160,000 of the amount, noted Thomas Domitrovich, administrator. Slated for resurfacing, which could get under way next summer, are Fourth and Fifth streets, Indiana and Illinois avenues and a portion of Iowa Avenue, he said.

Promoted Jim Petruzzi, a five-year firefighter with the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department, to lieutenant. Assistant Chief Bob Zajack was unable to provide a salary figure.

Heard that the fire department will be having an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the department, 451 Ohio Ave. The event will feature, among other things, demonstrations and a class on proper ways to handle and use fire extinguishers, Chief Ed Winterbauer said.
