Bennett leads East to victory

CLEVELAND — Chelsea Bennett scored 17 points and she grabbed eight rebounds, had four steals, six assists and blocked two shots in leading the East High girls basketball team to a 66-34 victory over Cleveland Glenville Saturday at Lutheran East High School.
The Panthers (1-0) built a commanding 34-14 lead by intermission. Briana Dawson added 12 points and she pulled down 15 rebounds had four steals and three assists. Monet Oliver finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and seven steals.
Tiara Harrison and Wyana Legion led Glenville (0-1) with 14 points apiece.
South Range 60, Jefferson 26
NORTH LIMA — The Raiders’ (1-0) defense held Jefferson to five points in each the first and second quarter, nine in the third and seven in the fourth.
Nine players got into the scoring column for the Raiders with Gabby Naples and Emily Seman with 10 points apiece.
South Range enjoyed a 34-20 rebounding advantage and it caused 28 turnovers. Joslin Landis led the Eagles with five points.
Salem 55, Crestview 41
NEW WATERFORD — The Quakers (1-0) broke away from a 13-13 tie in the first quarter to take a 27-20 lead by intermission.
Brittney Richie scored 20 points to trigger the Salem attack, while Amy Scullion added 15 and she have five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
Chelsea Bowker led the Rebels (0-1) with 19 points and she had four rebounds and three steals.
Hubbard 54, Brookfield 43
BROOKFIELD — The Eagles (1-0) held a 31-21 lead at intermission and the Warriors (0-1) weren’t able to catch up.
Cara Julian and Paige Seech, who made three 3-point baskets, scored 14 points apiece for the Eagles.
Kodi Brenner led Brookfield with 12 points and Ashley Swezey finished with 10.
Newton Falls 53, Lakeview 39
CORTLAND — Kelsey McGregor scored 11 of her game-high 19 points in the second quarter to lead Newton Falls to a 33-15 halftime lead.
Destiny Prusky added 15 points and Jenn Bjelac nine to also pace Newton Falls (1-0), which had a 16-4 free-throw advantage.
Lakeview (0-1) was led by Mackenzie Palette with 11 points while Casey Watson added nine points and eight rebounds.
