• NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — The wedding of Jennifer Marie Schmidt and Ryan Nicholas Wise took place aboard the yacht “Destiny” at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at Newport Beach. The Rev. Charles Ara officiated, and a reception took place after the ceremony.

The couple honeymooned at Waikiki and Maui in Hawaii and live in Seal Beach, Calif.

Parents of the bride are John and Jeannie Schmidt of Youngstown, and the groom is a son of Gary Wise of Ontario and Linda Wise of Anaheim, Calif.

The bride’s beaded schiffli lace-over-satin princess-style gown featured spaghetti straps and a semicathedral train.

Serving as honor attendant for the bride was her sister, Ashley Schmidt of Seal Beach. She wore a black dress with red accents.

The duties of best man were performed by the groom’s brother, Chris Cowles of Garden Grove, Calif.

The bride graduated cum laude from John Carroll University in University Heights with a bachelor’s degree in communication and received her master’s in communication and education from Columbia University Teachers College in New York, N.Y. She is an assistant director of university relations and development at California State University in Long Beach, Calif.

The groom, a first cook with The Hilton Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach, Calif., graduated from Western Reserve School of Cooking in Hudson with a culinary arts certificate.
