CSU routs Toledo, UIC beats Howard


Wisconsin-Milwaukee fell to Ball State, but Akron and Dayton got easy wins.

MIAMI — Chris Moore matched his career high with 17 points and Cleveland State defeated Toledo 77-56 on Tuesday.

The Vikings (3-2) shot a season-high 54.5 percent from the field (30-of-55) in the second round of the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic.

Moore didn’t miss all night, hitting eight field goals — including a pair of two-handed dunks — and one free throw.

Cleveland State’s Cedric Jackson nearly posted the first triple-double in school history with 11 points, nine assists and eight rebounds while adding a season-high five steals.

Tyrone Kent led Toledo (0-4) with 22 points, 16 in the second half, while Justin Anyijong added 10 points.

Ball State 82, Milwaukee 69

MILWAUKEE — Jarrod Jones scored 18 points and Brandon Lampley added 15 for Ball State (3-1). Anthony Newell added 14 points and Laron Frazier 12. Milwaukee (3-3) lost its second straight game. Anthony Hill scored 17 points, Ricky Franklin 15 and Avery Smith 12 for the Panthers.

Ill.-Chicago 68, Howard 54

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Scott VanderMeer scored 13 points and blocked five shots for Illinois-Chicago (2-2). Robo Kreps added 13 points and Josh Mayo had 12 for UIC. Eugene Myatt scored 19 points for Howard (1-4).

Akron 81, Urbana 31

AKRON — Nate Linhart scored 16 points, including a 3-pointer than kicked off 15 straight points as the Zips (3-1) took a big early lead and cruised. Chris McKnight added 14 points for Akron.

David Brown scored 11 points and T.R. Ellis had 10 for Urbana (0-5), which had 26 turnovers.

Dayton 71, Mercer 53

DAYTON — Chris Wright scored 16 points, including two dunks in the game’s first few minutes as Dayton took an early lead and never trailed in the second round of the Chicago Invitational Challenge.

Charles Little scored 11 points and Marcus Johnson added 10 for Dayton (4-0). Wright also had 11 rebounds.

Daniel Emerson scored 13 points, Calvin Henry had 12 and Mark Hall 10 for Mercer (3-2).
