Oberlin 67, Westminster 52

OBERLIN — Junior forward Steve Bielich posted his fourth career game with 20-or-more points as he led the Titans (0-5) with 20 points on 5-12 shooting from the floor and 9-12 from the free-throw line. Bielich also ripped down nine rebounds and posted a game-high four blocks. Freshman forward Rob Briggs led Westminster with a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points while junior forward Ryne Murray bucketed nine points to with his six rebounds. Westminster shot a scant 25.8 percent (17-66) from the field including 2-20 from 3-point range. Jordan Beard paced the Yeomen (1-1) with 21 points and Mike Loll tossed in 15 points as Oberlin shot 47.2 percent (25-53) from the field. Oberlin led by as many as 19 points in the first half before taking a 39-23 halftime lead. The Titans chopped the deficit down to six points — 46-40 with 11:33 to go in the game — but the Yeomen reestablished a 10-point lead with 7:36 remaining and kept the double-figure advantage for the rest of the game. Westminster returns to action in one week when it hosts Mount Union at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium on Dec. 1 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

West Liberty 99, Bethany 74

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — The Hilltoppers used a huge run late in the half to grab the momentum and pull away for a 99-74 triumph on the first night of the Wendy’s Classic. As they’ve done in their first three games, BC (2-2) was hot from the arc at the start. Bethany finished with four scorers in double digits, led by Joe Testa with 15 markers and Tyler Morando with 14. Sophomore Dakota Matz finished with 12 points, six assists and three steals while freshman Tobi Akinsola, who was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor, finished with a dozen points and seven rebounds. The Hilltoppers were led by their starting backcourt, as Ben Howlett recorded 20 and Corey Pelle fired in 19. The Bison will return to West Liberty tonight for the second night of the Wendy’s Classic. BC will take on Ohio University-Eastern at 6 p.m. OUE dropped a 107-55 decision to Wheeling Jesuit.
