Puzzling ‘two-for’ hint recycles and saves money, too
Dear Heloise: I love playing the number puzzles and buy the game books when I find them on sale. I also collect the game from the daily newspaper and found they were piling up rapidly.
Now when I cut a game out of the newspaper, I paste it in a game book over a puzzle I’ve already done. It’s a great place to save the puzzles for later and a good recycling for the used books. Cheryl Green from Ohio
Cheryl, this is a real “two-for” hint, saving money and recycling. Heloise
Fast Facts
Dear Heloise: I read the Fast Facts on using a pizza cutter to cut other food. Here are some foods I use it for that were not mentioned.
• Fudge.
• Cakes and rolls.
• Toast.
• Veggies.
• Bread dough.

Dear Heloise: For many years, whenever my boyfriend and I have visited the seashore, we don’t collect shells, we collect plastic! We have retrieved what seems like miles of plastic fishing line, children’s plastic beach toys, hundreds of plastic soda-pop bottles and thousands of unidentifiable plastic objects littering the coastline.
If everyone who collects shells would take a bit of time and collect plastic for disposal away from the beach, our oceans would be cleaner and wildlife would be safer. Ellen, via e-mail
Ellen, you and your boyfriend are doing Mother Earth a great favor. Readers, keep this hint in mind when you visit any beach, shore, river or lake. Heloise
Dear Heloise: I had many rolls of tape in a “collect-all” box and could never find the right one when needed. One day, I saw an old wooden paper-towel holder. I unscrewed the top and was able to slide on seven different sizes of tape. Voila! I now have all the tape handy and don’t have to search for it! Marian Harvey, San Diego
Dear Readers: Here’s a fun family project that will give your children some experience in journalism. Help them gather family and neighborhood news, sports activities, photos and even advice! Put it together newsletter-style or on a flier and send out a monthly family newsletter to grandparents and other relatives. This is especially easy if you have a computer. Heloise
Dear Heloise: Eyebrow plucking can be painful. I put some of the formula that numbs baby’s gums on first and then pluck — the pain is at a minimum. Give it a try! Gloria Schmidt, Salt Lake City
Sound on
Dear Heloise: This is a thank-you to manufacturers for changing labels on clothing. I was so irritated by scratchy labels, and I was thrilled to find labels printed on underwear. What a relief.
I wish other manufacturers would get in line with this practice or at least make labels easy to remove. Roberta, via e-mail
