Pizza shop robbed
YOUNGSTOWN — A would-be customer ordered a cheese pizza at Little Milly’s Pizza, 3212 Mahoning Ave., at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday and placed his money on the counter. When the clerk opened the register drawer, the customer pulled out a revolver, told the employee to back away and grabbed the money. The customer-turned-robber took an undisclosed amount of money and fled on foot.
2 escape house fire
CANFIELD — Two people escaped injury when their house in the 4000 block of Canfield Road caught fire Sunday morning. Canfield Fire Department responded about 9 a.m. with assistance from the Austintown Fire Department. The fire remains under investigation.
Carbon monoxide deaths
WARREN — Carbon monoxide from a propane heater caused the deaths of Jack Free of 286 Oak St., S.W., and his dog Thursday. Warren Fire Department responded to the call at 12:52 p.m.
Boardman openings
BOARDMAN — Township trustees are seeking letters of interest from township residents who want to serve on the board of zoning appeals, zoning commission and site plan review committees.
A letter of interest is to be submitted to the township zoning office, 8299 Market St., Boardman 44512, Attn: Zoning Office, no later than Dec. 5. Appointments will be made at the Dec. 24 regular trustees meeting. All applicants must live within the township.
Off School Program
YOUNGSTOWN — The YMCA is offering its Off School Program during the holiday season for parents who don’t get the same days off as their children.
Both the Youngstown YMCA Central branch, 17 N. Champion St., and the Davis Family YMCA branch, 45 McClurg Road, Boardman, invite children age 6 through 13 to the program full of activities and field trips.
The program will be available Wednesday and Friday; Dec. 22, 23, 26, 29 and 30; and Jan. 2.
Regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will cost members $25 a day per child, and nonmembers $30. Parents can extend the hours to 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. for an additional $5 a day per child.
Holiday tree sale
NEW MIDDLETOWN — Springfield Township Fire Department’s Christmas tree sale will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Daily hours run from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Struthers Road fire station.
The trees will be fresh-cut and are locally grown. Frasier firs, Black Hills spruce, blue spruce, balsam fir and Douglas fir are all available. Proceeds from the tree sales will help the firefighters buy up-to-date equipment.
