Kent State continues on unbeaten trail
KENT — Kent State rolled North Carolina-Wilmington Sunday afternoon, building a solid second-half lead that gave the Flashes an 83-46 win.
Kent State (3-0) led by only four at the half, 40-36. The second half gave Kent the lead, at one point enjoying a 21-point advantage during the South Padre Island Invitational.
Three Kent State players went for double-digit scoring, led by Chris Singletary’s 23 points. Julian Sullinger had 18 and Al Fisher offered 17.
North Carolina-Wilmington (2-2) also had three players in double digits. Dominique Lacy posted 19, with Johnny Wolf contributing 16 and Josh Sheets with 14.
Wisconsin-Green Bay 71, Morgan State 54
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Chop Tang scored 16 points and had nine rebounds to lead Green Bay in the Glenn Wilkes Classic.
Tang converted all six of his free throws and Green Bay made 28 of 30 from the stripe.
Green Bay (2-2) also got 15 points and seven rebounds from Randy Berry and 15 points from Mike Schachtner, who connected on seven of eight free throws. Morgan State (2-4) was led by Marquise Kately, who had 14 points, and Reggie Holmes, who scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Penn State 70, New Hampshire 50
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Talor Battle scored 24 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead Penn State past New Hampshire.
Jamelle Cornley chipped in for Penn State (4-0), scoring 17 points and grabbing eight boards. New Hampshire (1-2) was led by Tyrece Gibbs and Eric Gilchrese, who scored 14 and 13 points, respectively.
In a first half that saw seven lead changes, Battle scored the final seven points of the opening stanza to give the Nittany Lions a 36-29 lead at halftime.
New Hampshire stunned Penn State to start the game, jumping out to a 4-0 lead on back-to-back buckets by Dane DiLiegro.
The Nittany Lions shot 49 percent from the field, while the Wildcats shot 32 percent.
Dayton 78, Bethune-Cookman 38
DAYTON — Marcus Johnson posted a team-high 16 points during the opening game of the Chicago Invitational Challenge. The Flyers (3-0) opened with a 13-2 lead in their largest win since a 44-point victory over Morehead State in 2001. They closed the game with a 20-1 run. Chris Johnson posted 14 points for Dayton and Charles Little had 10. As a team, Dayton outscored the Wildcats (1-2) in the paint, 36-6.
