Back to work at American Standard in Salem

SALEM — About 340 workers returned Monday to American Standard after ending their strike last Friday.

Tracy Benson Kirker, a spokesperson for the company said that returning to work today went smoothly and as planned and there were no incidents.”

Salem police had no reports of any problems as the workers returned.

Workers accepted a company plan that calls for wage and other concessions.

The United Steel Workers of America Local 1538 is pursuing an unfair labor practice against the company despite the return. The union is contending the company made its proposal and did not negotiate.
