‘Fine-Tune’ screening at Main Street Theater

COLUMBIANA — “Fine-Tune,” the film made in the Mahoning Valley, will be shown at Main Street Theater, 5 N. Main St., on Saturday. The evening will include a reception with the cast and director/writer Chris Rutushin of Youngstown at 5:30 p.m. The film will be shown at 7 p.m. Another reception will follow the movie with live music from the musicians who created the film’s soundtrack.

“Fine Tune” is a comedy that involves a young couple who returns to Youngstown to live. The local cast includes Noelle Nackino, Brendan Gauntner and John Maluso. Tickets are $10. For more information, call (330) 482-9647.

Charity basketball game at South Field House

YOUNGSTOWN — The ACOP Center of Warren is sponsoring a Thanksgiving charity basketball game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the South High Field House, 1840 Erie St., featuring Poster Boy of the And 1 Mix Tape Tour, and friends White Shadow, Slow Motion and Cash.

The event is hosted by 101.9-JAMZ radio personalities T-Luv and Lucky Penny. A half-time entertainment will be provided by Diamond Swag Dance Crew, with music by All or Nothin and Imperial Ent.

Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door ($5 and $10 for children under 12), and are available at ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road, Warren; In The Cut Barber Shop, 196 McCartney Road, Campbell; Step It Up Cuts in Youngstown and Klassy Kuts, 413 Spearman Ave., Farrell, Pa.

Proceeds will benefit ACOP (Alliance Community Outreach Program), a faith-based center whose mission is to provide mentoring, education and technology training for at-risk children and their families.

MVHS offers calendars with historical photos

YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning Valley Historical Society has produced two calendars for 2009. “The Story of My House” includes excerpts from Olive F.A. Arms’ essay on her home and is accompanied by historical photos of Greystone (now the Arms Family Museum of Local History). “In a Good Humor” tells the story of Harry B. Burt and his Good Humor ice cream bar. Butler and branches to observe winter hours

YOUNGSTOWN — The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., and its branches will observe winter hours Dec. 3 through March 25. Hours at the Butler will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. Wednesday evening hours will be suspended during the winter months. The museum is closed Mondays.

The Butler Trumbull Branch, 9350 E. Market St., Howland, hours will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Exhibits at the Salem Branch, 343 E. State St,, are closed due to renovations. New exhibits are expected to open in January and hours will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Butler facilities will be closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day, and will close at 2 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Hoyt opens gift shop

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts has opened a gift shop in the Hoyt West Period House, featuring original works by local artists — including jewelry, pottery, paintings and glass — as well as art supplies and hard-to-find gifts. The shop also feature an exclusive line of boxed greetings by Volant native and artist Thomas G. McNickle, who is renowned for his depiction of the western Pennsylvania landscape in and around Lawrence County. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Packard Christmas show

WARREN — Warren Civic Music Association will present “Spirit of Christmas” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at the W.D. Packard Music Hall.
