CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Glory Johnson scored 19 points and Vicki Baugh made a tiebreaking free throw with 53.7 seconds to avoid a major upset. The Lady Vols (2-1) trailed 61-53 with 6 minutes remaining after building a 10-point lead earlier in the half. Alicia Manning drilled a wide-open 3-pointer from the left corner to tie it at 63 with 1:22 left. Baugh, Cait McMahan and Shekinna Stricklen each made a foul shot in the final minute for Tennessee, which has won 17 straight against Chattanooga.
Hartford 53, No. 6 Duke 51
CHICAGO — Lisa Etienne scored 15 points to help Hartford upset sloppy Duke in the first game of the DePaul Invitational. Diana Delva had 12 and MaryLynne Schaefer added 10 for the Hawks (3-0), who beat a ranked team for the fourth straight season. Duke (2-1) had 26 turnovers and made only 17 of 64 shots. Chante Black had 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Jasmine Thomas scored 12. Hartford has won 25 games or more and taken the American East regular-season title the last three years.
No. 12 Vanderbilt 66, East Tennessee State 55
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Christina Wirth and Merideth Marsh scored 16 points apiece. Hannah Tuomi added 13 points and 11 rebounds and Chanel Chisholm had 12 points while the Commodores (4-0) forced 27 turnovers. East Tennessee State nearly erased a 16-point second-half deficit, making it 48-45 with 10:24 left. But Marsh made two of her five 3-pointers to help Vanderbilt pull away. Siarre Evans led East Tennessee State (0-3) with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Latisha Belcher had 10 points.
No. 25 Old Dominion 78, No. 16 Virginia 70
NORFOLK, Va. — Jazzmin Walters scored 24 points to help Old Dominion win a rematch of last season’s second-round NCAA tournament game. Tiffany Green added 20 points and 12 rebounds and Jessica Canady had 16 points and 14 rebounds to help the No. 25 Lady Monarchs (3-1) win their 27th straight home game. They have the nation’s second-longest streak behind Hartford’s 28. No. 16 Virginia (2-1), coming off an upset of Tennessee, pulled within 62-60 on Monica Wright’s jumper with 4:35 to play, but got no closer. With Old Dominion up three in the final minute, Walters made one of two free throws and a layup to secure the win.
