URSULINE LIVE | Irish lead 14-0 at halftime

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- The Ursuline High football team leads Baltimore Liberty Union 14-0 at halftime of Saturday's Division V state semifinal at Woody Hayes Stadium.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Irish got on the board with 10:43 left in the second quarter on a 1-yard TD run by senior fullback Darrell Mason. The score was set up by junior running back Allen Jones’ 57 yard scamper down the left sideline to the Liberty Union 3 on the first play of the quarter.

Six minutes later, sophomore running back Akise Teague split the Lion defense and sped into the end zone from 34 yards out to make it 14-0.

Liberty Union’s only scoring threat came on game’s opening drive. The Lions had a first down at the Irish 18 but three plays netted just 8 yards and Liberty Union running back Dustin Love was stuffed on fourth-and-2 by Justin Love and Jamel Turner.

The Lions never threatened again.

Ursuline had 163 yards rushing and 41 passing in the first half, compared to 42 yards rushing and 44 passing for Liberty Union. Ursuline had the only turnover, an interception on a last-second Hail Mary to end the first half.
