Lessons and Carols

YOUNGSTOWN — The annual Festival of Lessons and Carols will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St. This year’s program will feature seasonal music of Celtic origin in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the present St. Columba Cathedral building, which was built in 1958.

The Cathedral Choir, directed by Dr. Daniel Laginya, will be accompanied by Kirk Kupensky on harp, Edward Madej on cello and Mary Ann Bush on flute and organ.

A reception will follow in the cathedral hall. The program is free and open to all.

‘A Night in Bethlehem’

LIBERTY — Church Hill United Methodist Church, 189 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will host a seasonal event, “A Night in Bethlehem,” from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30.

The free, family-oriented activity will feature a marketplace with Roman soldiers, census taker, tax collector and craftsmen, a synagogue with a rabbi praying, a Jewish family’s home where they follow traditions and stable where a baby is crying.

Harvest Day concert

YOUNGSTOWN — First Calvary Baptist Church, 126 E. Wood St., will host a Harvest Day and concert program, “Saturday Night Live: Gospel Style,” at 6 p.m. today with Gospel Change of Farrell, Pa. A dinner will follow the service.

Multicultural extravaganza

SHARON, Pa. — The children’s ministry at Cedar Avenue Church of God, 1045 Cedar Ave., will present a multicultural extravaganza, Christmas Around the World, at 2 p.m. Dec. 7. There will be a hip-hop Christmas story, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa candlelighting ceremonies. Carols from around the world will be presented by Suzy Podleyon and Ross Williams, Scottish Highland bagpiper; Marshall Norman will perform “Follow the Star” in sign language; and children’s presentations. There also will be ethnic foods.

Concert at church

NILES — The Circle of Friends, southern Gospel quartet, will be in concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith Baptist Church, Niles-Cortland Road. A love offering will be taken.

Guest speaker scheduled

EAST PALESTINE — Ruth Cole, a member of New Lisbon Presbyterian Church where her father pastored many years, will be guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday at First United Presbyterian Church, 109 W. Rebecca St. She has been active in Eastminster Presbytery and serves on the synod commission.

Church talent show

YOUNGSTOWN — Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., is making plans for its second annual talent show to be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 7. Rehearsal will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 3. Soloists, ensembles and choirs may participate. The congregation will sing Christmas carols between acts. Refreshments will follow the show.

Candlelight service

CORNERSBURG — Solid Rock Church, (Cornersburg Professional Building), 3507 Canfield Road, will have a candlelight service at 11 a.m. Nov. 30 in memory of young people who died this year through acts of violence. The theme is “Just Hold On. Help is on the Way.” Guest speaker will be evangelist Doris Carter, a member of the Church of God in Christ.

Church’s anniversary

CAMPBELL — Faith Temple Baptist Church, 125 Roosevelt Drive, will mark its 41st anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday with the theme, “Revisiting the Vision.” Pastor Robert E. Chavers and his congregation from Community Baptist Church of Farrell, Pa., will be guests.

Presenting musical acts
