Boardman police arrest man accused of robbing woman

BOARDMAN — Police arrested a Youngstown man Saturday whom they accused of robbing a woman outside of a Market Street eatery.

Police charged Butler Johnson IV, 36, of Kenmore Avenue, with robbery, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Late Saturday afternoon, a woman went into Uptown Pizza and bought food. As she was leaving, a man, later identified as Johnson, grabbed her, pushed her up against the building, took cash from her hand and fled north on Market, police said. Johnson said nothing to the victim.

The victim wrote down the license plate number and description of the car, called 911 and met officers at Market and Midlothian Boulevard.

Police and city police and a city K-9 unit went to the Kenmore Avenue home where the license plate was registered. The car described by the victim was in the driveway, and the homeowner gave police consent to search the home.

The police dog found Johnson hiding beneath a pile of clothing in the basement.

The victim identified him as the robber, and he was arrested and taken to Mahoning County Jail.

Police said Johnson has a lengthy criminal record. There were also several warrants from the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department for Johnson’s arrest for theft and for a probation violation stemming from a previous robbery.
