Benefit dinner set for Huntington’s disease victim

STAFF REPORT

GIRARD — A benefit dinner will be Sunday for a McDonald resident who suffers from a degenerative brain disorder.

Eight years ago, Mike Kutsch was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, a genetic disorder that causes uncontrollable movement and impairs emotional and intellectual function.

The disease has rendered Kutsch unable to walk, and he now relies on the constant care of others. Treatment and rehabilitation of the incurable disorder has saddled Kutsch’s wife, who cares for their two children, with a hefty financial burden.

To lend support, the Girard First United Methodist Church, 22 N. Market St., will have the spaghetti dinner benefit between 1 and 5 p.m. Dinners cost $7 for adults; $5 for children under 12; and free for children under 3.

There also will be a bake sale and raffle. Additionally, a fund for donations for Kutsch has been opened at all Home Savings and Loan branch locations.
