YSU ensemble, band in centennial concert

YOUNGSTOWN — In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Youngstown State University, the YSU Wind Ensemble and Concert Band will have a concert at 8 p.m. Monday in Powers Auditorium.

The Concert Band, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Heidenreich, will perform five works that represent a 100-year span from 1908 to 2008.

After the intermission, the YSU Wind Ensemble, with Stephen L. Gage conducting, will begin its segment with “The Sinfonian’s March” by J. Clifton Williams, which it will perform with a men’s choir representing the YSU chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and the organization’s alumni. The ensemble will accompany Brian D. Kiser, YSU assistant professor of tuba, on Ellerby’s “Concerto for Tuba.” Robert E. Fleming, YSU Professor of Music and Director of Bands, Emeritus, will guest-conduct the Wind Ensemble.

Stage Left Youth Players present children’s musical

LISBON — “Goldilocks in Bobby Sox,” a musical fairy tale written by Kandace Cleland and Jodine Pilmer, will be presented this weekend at Trinity Playhouse, 234 E. Lincoln Way.

Stage Left Youth Players star in this musical, which combines “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” with “Grease.”

Dance studio offers group classes, aerobics

BOARDMAN — Fred Astaire Dance Studio, 5090 Market St., is offering public group classes and a Latin aerobics class.

The group classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:45-7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 3-3:45 p.m.

For the rest of November, Monday’s class will be Foxtrot, Wednesday’s class will be East Coast Swing, and Saturday’s class will be Salsa. The dances will change each month.

The aerobics class will be from 11-11:45 a.m. Saturdays.

Group classes are $10 a session; Latin classes are $5.

Chris Higbee Project concert is postponed

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. — The Westminster College Habitat for Humanity’s benefit concert featuring The Chris Higbee Project originally scheduled for Saturday has been postponed. The new date has not been confirmed.
